Bilal Khan
Short Synopsis
|
Dr. Bilal Khan, is an Assistant Professor in the School of Computer Science at CSU San Bernardino and serving as a visiting researcher at the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering department at UCLA. Dr. Khan has extensive experience in the application of artificial intelligence techniques in cross-disciplinary areas, particularly in membrane based Reverse Osmosis (RO) water treatment and environmental and health risk assessment of Nanotechnology. His active role focuses on the development of autonomous, adaptive, and co-learning reverse osmosis (RO) water treatment and desalination systems by developing fundamental process operation building blocks to predict the operational performance of such systems. Among various machine learning and data-driven modeling approaches, Dr. Khan is spearheading the efforts utilizing reinforcement learning techniques to formulate adaptive models for water treatment and desalination systems with complex state spaces and temporally interconnected operations. Dr. Khan and his team are leading the efforts to develop robust and adaptive frameworks that can handle both episodic and sequential decision-making characteristics. Previously while serving as an assistant researcher at UCLA from 2013 to 2020, Dr. Khan developed the most robust and comprehensive decision support system as an online nanoinformatics platform to assist regulatory bodies for the management of nanotechnology. The nanoinformatics platform consists of machine learning and data mining models that are supported by the largest database of nanomaterials.
