Size Exclusion ChromatographyResearch on size exclusion chromatography of polymers has focused on the development of polymer grafted silica resins primarily for aqueous-based SEC applications. The polymers are terminally and covalently grafted onto the pores of the silica resin thereby allowing careful control of the surface chemistry of the pores in addition to being able to adjust the resin pore size distribution. We have shown that polyvinylpyrrolidone which is grafted polymerized (by free-radical polymerization of vinylpyrrolidone) results in an effective silica-PVP SEC resins which can be used for MW analysis of water soluble polymers without the need for any additives or mixed solvents. A recent state-of-the-art review was published by the PolySep group and can be viewed by following the link below.
